Dil To Pagal Hai is a Bollywood musical romantic drama, released October 31, 1997, depicting the love lives of dancers in a musical dance troupe. The tag line is "Someone somewhere is made for you..." It was directed by Yash Chopra. It stars Shahrukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor, with an extended cameo by Akshay Kumar. It was the first Bollywood movie to be shot in Baden-Baden, Germany, and in the German theme park Europa Park. The movie was the second highest grosser for the year 1997 in Bollywood.[2] It won many awards, including sweeping most of the major categories at that year's Filmfare Awards.[3]
Story
Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) is a dancer. He has directed many successful musicals, all of which star his best friend Nisha (Karisma Kapoor). Rahul thinks of Nisha only as a friend but Nisha secretly loves him. When she starts to reveal her love for him, he rejects her and says that he does not believe in love and does not understand how two people can become life partners. Rahul is now working on a new musical called 'Maya.' When Nisha reads the script, she believes that the main character is unrealistic and that the play will not be successful because of this. However, she agrees to play the role. Then, Nisha breaks her leg and the doctor says she must not dance for some time.Rahul goes looking for a new girl to play the role. One day, he comes across the beautiful Pooja (Madhuri Dixit) who starts dancing whilst he plays the drums. Rahul notices her dancing talent and believes she fits the role of Maya perfectly. After some persuasion, Pooja agrees to take on the role. She and Rahul feel each other being drawn towards each other but at the same time try to avoid such things happening. When Nisha comes out of hospital, she is disappointed about being replaced and also notices the attraction between Rahul and Pooja. As Rahul is her best friend, she wants only the best for him - she leaves for London for a while in order to let Rahul and Pooja come together.
Finally, it comes closer to the day that the show will open. Ajay (Akshay Kumar) arrives to see Pooja - it is revealed to Rahul that he is Pooja's fiance which deeply hurts Rahul. Nisha also returns and notices how hurt Rahul is by the news. As a result, Rahul edits the end of the play to illustrate his and Pooja's relationship. On the night of the show, Ajay realises that Pooja loves Rahul and releases her from her engagement. He meets Nisha and implies he wants to start a love story with her by asking her if she is married. Rahul and Pooja are applauded by the crowd as they confess their love for each other.
